Three migrants were killed and several others injured when Austrian border police shot a truck in the state of Burgenland while it was trying to cross the border with Slovakia.

In turn, Helmet Murban, a Burgenland police spokesman, said, "Twenty people, including children and women, were found inside the trunk of the truck," noting that a number of the victims held Syrian citizenship.
Last May, the Austrian Interior Ministry announced the dismantling of a network of smugglers that had smuggled tens of thousands of illegal immigrants from Hungary to Austria.
