The family outing turned into a tragedy.
An 11-year-old boy died this Saturday in Aveyron, while he was doing a family via ferrata in Argences-en-Aubrac.
Around 1:30 p.m., the child fell of at least 80 meters on the course, reveals the newspaper Center Presse.
After two hours of research, around 3:30 p.m., a civil security helicopter spotted the child.
The emergency services found him in a state of cardiopulmonary arrest and brought him back up using the helicopter.
The young victim died a few minutes later.
The child would have hung on badly
For their research, the firefighters notably hired a team from the Group for Research and Intervention in Perilous Environments (Grimp), due to the particularly rugged terrain of the course, indicates France Bleu.
They were still there in the early evening to provide psychological support to family members, extremely shocked by this tragic accident, specifies the newspaper Midi Libre.
The Aveyron gendarmerie went there to determine the cause of the fall and the Rodez prosecutor's office opened an investigation.
According to the first elements, "the child would have hung on badly, the safety rules would not have been respected", affirms France Bleu.
It is not yet known whether the responsibility of the manager of the via ferrata is engaged. The Bois de Baltuergues via ferrata is open access, made up of footbridges and monkey bridges, above the Truyère gorges.
