The French may have rushed for eggs and cold meats since the start of the pandemic, the Avril group, known for its Lesieur, Puget or Matines brands, sees its future only in plants.
While the group stabilized its turnover in 2020 (-0.6% at constant scope), at 5.76 billion euros, it announced on Tuesday the sale of all its animal processing activities.
Namely its eggs sold in supermarkets (Matins) or to restaurateurs and agri-food professionals (Ovoteam).
But also its slaughtering, cutting and packaging activities of pork (Porcgros and Abera).
Unprofitable, these animal branches account for 8.5% of its turnover but less than 1% of its gross operating surplus of 243 million euros.
Avril has so far been a major player in the egg market, with nearly 2 billion units sold per year.
