The branches of the National Union of Syrian Students in As-Suwayda, Homs and Aleppo, in cooperation with the police leaders in those governorates, organized today dialogue sessions entitled “The Delusion Trade” with the aim of raising awareness of the dangers of drugs and their effects on the individual and society and ways to combat them.

The head of the As-Suwayda branch of the National Union of Syrian Students, Wafaa Al-Aflaq, stated during the sessions held at the branch’s headquarters that the aim of the sessions was to educate the young generation to contribute to combating the spread of drugs by introducing them to its dangers, the causes of its spread and its devastating effects on the individual and society, and to propose solutions to address this based on the societal responsibility to combat it.

In turn, the Head of the Anti-Narcotics Branch in As-Suwayda, Brigadier General Fajr Issa, pointed out the dangers of drugs and the damage they cause, which disrupt the mental and behavioral abilities of the individual, reviewing the efforts of the Ministry of Interior to combat the spread of this scourge and the importance of concerted efforts to educate young people to stay away from it.

At Al-Baath University in Homs, the students participating in the dialogue sessions demanded an increase in the holding of meetings regarding awareness of the dangers of drugs, pointing to the role of the media in this by broadcasting and presenting awareness programs and presenting cases of drug users and their condition.

The head of the Student Union branch in Homs, Ali Hammadi, spoke about the importance of these sessions launched by the union in social awareness and building to immunize the young generation to face the dangers of drug addiction, in addition to spreading a culture of dialogue among them to extract ideas that contribute to finding innovative methods of awareness.

In turn, the head of the Office of Voluntary Work and Social Activities in the Union branch, Abdul Ghafour Al-Alewi, explained that this session, which included more than 25 students, aims to reach the largest possible segment through dialogue with the students, so that they, in turn, spread awareness-raising ideas in their surroundings about the danger of drugs.

Head of the Anti-Narcotics Branch in Homs, Brigadier General Abdul Karim Al-Adhab, who noted the importance of the meeting with the youth of Al-Baath University, explained that all types of drugs, whether natural plants or chemical, are destructive to the individual, family and society and may lead to death or to serious immune diseases.

At the University of Aleppo, 25 male and female students from different faculties participated in the dialogue sessions. A member of the national team facilitating the dialogue sessions, Dr. Muhammad Zitouni, stated that these sessions aim to extract ideas and suggestions on the subject of drugs and the need to confront them.

The head of the student branch in Aleppo, Yasser Gawish, called for shedding light on drug abuse and drug addiction treatment methods, in addition to educating students about its negative effects, especially since young people are the largest segment of society.

Head of the Moral Guidance Branch at Aleppo Police Command, Brigadier General Suhail Haidar, stated that drugs are a serious problem that the concerned authorities are keen to follow up through specialized committees.

The Assistant Head of the Anti-Narcotics Branch in Aleppo, Lieutenant Colonel Ziad Darios, pointed out the negative effects of drugs on health, the ways of using them and addiction to them.

The Assistant Commander of Aleppo Police and Head of the Media Subcommittee for Combating Drugs, Brigadier General Muhammad Askour, pointed out the importance of the media's role in educating society about the dangers of the drug scourge.

Head of the Criminal Security Branch in Aleppo, Brigadier General Ali Al-Saleh, praised the role of the concerned authorities in following up the crimes of drug trafficking and the importance of implementing the law against the promoters and referring them to the competent judiciary.

Head of the Center for Strategic Studies and Research, Dr. Muhammad Qassem Abdullah, referred to the effects of drug abuse on health and the soul and the role of educational and social institutions in combating the phenomenon of drug abuse.

Director General of Ibn Khaldoun Hospital for Psychiatric and Mental Illnesses, Dr. Muhammad Bassam Hayek, stressed the importance of raising awareness of the dangers of being subjected to deception and polarization by drug promoters and the role of specialist doctors in treating addiction in a confidential, safe and free manner.
