After four years of tariff commitments conditional on breeding practices more concerned with animal welfare and more sustainable food, the family group Bel (Babybel, Kiri ...) and the APBO (Association of producers of milk Bel Ouest) announced on Tuesday a new agreement for 2022. It is more ambitious both on the remuneration of farmers and on the criteria to ensure more sustainable milk.
Decarbonization premium of 5 euros per 1000 liters
While over the previous four years, Bel pledged 350 euros for 1000 liters of milk, accompanied by a premium of 21 euros for the respect of 100% GMO-free food and access to pasture for cows, the group renews these requirements while raising the reference price to 377 euros per 1000 liters.
Above all, it promises its partner breeders an additional premium of 5 euros per tonne of milk, for those guaranteeing a 100% European diet.
The goal: to engage in a low carbon approach, by banning the use of soybean meal
