Banco Santander scholarships to enhance professional English: what are the requirements to apply

Improving skills like this and learning new skills and knowledge (also called upskilling) help with career goals.

On this occasion, Banco Santander is launching 1,000 scholarships to promote professional English: what is it about, who is it for, what are the requirements and how long it can be applied.

In conjunction with the University of Pennsylvania, with the aim of enhancing the professional English of those interested in advancing their careers and improving their employability, the financial institution

launches 1,000 scholarships aimed at people over 18 years of age, non-native speakers of the English language, nationals or residents of 13 countries

: Germany, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, USA, Spain, Mexico, Peru, Poland, Portugal, United Kingdom and Uruguay.

Applicants must have a minimum B1 level of English.

This reference refers to the third level of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR), which defines the different levels of a language established by the Council of Europe.

In it, students

exceed basic skills but are still not able to work or study exclusively in English.

The training program will allow participants to choose between three courses based on their professional goals:

  • English for Career Development

    : With 400 places, this course is designed to help participants learn to

    face the selection and interview processes in English,

    thus increasing their employability opportunities. In addition, it will give your students the opportunity to explore the career path they want to develop while improving their vocabulary and skills in the English language.

  • English for Business and Entrepreneurship

    : With 300 scholarships, this course is for those interested in business and the global economy.

    Participants will learn English adapted to market research analysis, writing business plans, attracting investors' attention and financial support,

    as well as exploring the practices of global entrepreneurship.

  • English for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (English for science, technology and mathematics)

    : Another 300 places, for participants to

    learn to use the language of cause and effect in English

    , write research strategies, analyze data from experiments. They will also use the issues associated with climate change as a use case for scientific-technical language.

using the most appropriate technology.

that will help students and recent graduates do their best in the increasingly competitive job market. "

About the course

The course, 100% online, will be carried out through the UPenn online training platform

  • Duration: 5 weeks.


  • Time commitment per week:

    8 to 10 hours, with teacher support.

  • Offers individual activities

    (questionnaires about articles and videos, knowledge through games or making your own recordings as practical exercises)


  • Group activities in real time

    (conversations, comments and questions with teachers and colleagues about the tasks carried out, which will sometimes be mentored by internationally renowned specialists).

  • The course will begin in January 2022

    , will last 5 weeks and will be taught by UPenn's English Language Programs department.
