Bargain hunters stormed downtown Mannheim on Black Friday and disregarded the corona rules.
The police therefore had to get help.
Mannheim - Bargain hunters were
really serious
at the weekend in
Mannheim
: In their hunt for the cheap
Black Friday offers
, they
stormed
the shops in Mannheim
city center
so
that the police had to
move in
with additional
emergency services
.
Some shops even had to close temporarily.
In addition, there were
queues
up to 200 meters long in front of the shops in the square city
, which significantly obstructed the tram, the police said.
Black Friday: The situation in Mannheim city center is getting out of control
According to the
German Press Agency (dpa)
, compliance with the corona restrictions * such as the
minimum distance
and wearing mouth and nose protection * was a big problem
last weekend
.
On so-called Black Friday, many companies advertised particularly high discounts (* BW24 reported) - obviously many did not want to miss that.
On Friday afternoon the situation got so
out of control
that the police called colleagues from
Heidelberg
for help.
In the afternoon, numerous
clothing stores
and
fast-food chains
in Mannheim city center
had already developed
into
“hotspots”
.
The police officers, together with the municipal security service of the city of Mannheim, informed the waiting customers of compliance with the Corona rules.
Many stores had let in too many customers and were overwhelmed.
Two
fast-food restaurants
in the
Planken
also had to be
temporarily
closed
because this was the only way to reduce the number of customers.
The police are now investigating the operators on suspicion of violating the applicable corona rules.
Bargain hunters: Rabat day becomes "Black Week"
“Bargain hunting and queues on the one hand, fewer contacts, minimum distance and mouth and nose protection on the other hand are not mutually exclusive,” said Police President Andreas Stenger.
Because many shops are turning Black Friday into a kind of
"Black Week"
, i.e. a whole week of discounts, the police have upgraded their staff.
According to the
Rhein-Neckar-Zeitung
, business owners were
asked to
improve
their
Corona concepts in
order to comply with customer limits.
