A 59-year-old pilot was seriously injured when a small airplane crashed in the forest near Neualbenreuth in the Upper Palatinate district of Tirschenreuth.
The man was able to jump off the parachute on Thursday afternoon shortly before the impact, got stuck in a tree and was taken to a clinic, as the Upper Palatinate police headquarters announced.
According to initial investigations, the man started with his single-seat motor glider in the morning near Erfurt.
During the extensive rescue operation between Rosall and Ottengrün by the fire brigade, the mountain rescue service and a helicopter were also in action.
