A man who refuses to divorce his wife, and is facing a restraining order against a rabbinical court decision, managed to leave Israel earlier this week due to a computer failure - according to an internal email sent today (Wednesday) by the director of the Agunot in the rabbinical courts, Rabbi Eliyahu Maimon The law.
In an email, Maimon wrote that court secretaries around the country must manually enter all the detention orders issued by judges against those who refuse to divorce in the last two weeks, and make sure that they are absorbed into the system - "before all the horses run away from the stable."
Rabbi Maimon admitted that due to the incident, he was exposed "to a person who left the country despite a restraining order" and added that this was a "matter of urgency."
There was a heated debate within the rabbinical courts, during which some of the participants accused the management of knowing about the existence of the fault, but refrained for many days from informing the judges or competent authorities and treating it.

The courts did not deny that a person fled Israel due to the incident, but noted that "the incident is not in the computerized system of the rabbinical courts but in the interface with the system of the Border Control Authority."
They added in response that "upon the discovery of the problem, restraining orders to leave the country were handled manually by the courts."
