The winner of the "Bee-friendly community" competition organized by the Upper Bavaria district wins EUR 3,000.

Haar wants to participate and is certain of victory.

Haar

- Haar takes part in the competition "Bee-friendly community" of the district of Upper Bavaria.

"I think we have a good chance of getting onto the podium," said Mayor Andreas Bukowski (CSU) in the local council.

The committee voted unanimously in favor of participation, as jointly requested by the parliamentary groups of CSU, SPD and FDP.

Of course, the Greens did not block themselves there either.

Five criteria must be met:

The prerequisites for victory

Community areas such as traffic islands, roadsides or orchards must be planted in a bee and insect friendly way.

All community-owned areas are bee-friendly and can be farmed without the use of pesticides.

The so-called accompanying greening on municipal roads must be treated carefully, especially in spring and summer.

The community must provide local beekeepers with places to set up beehives and colonies, especially for young beekeepers.

Other voluntary measures

Other voluntary measures give additional points, from setting up an insect hotel to a bee and insect nature trail to the use of local honey and honey products in community facilities such as kindergartens, schools and retirement homes.

When the citizens' petition for the preservation of biodiversity in 2019, the approval of the Haarer population was very high.

"The measures already implemented in the community to promote biodiversity largely meet the criteria for bee-friendly communities set by the Upper Bavaria district," says the application.

Peter Siemsen (FDP) sees good opportunities for the community

"The chances are good!" Said Peter Siemsen (FDP).

By participating in the competition, the community of Haar can send a signal that is perceptible to the population for the consistent implementation of its sustainability goals and guidelines.

In addition, in the course of the evaluation, hair received valuable advice and further impulses from the expert jury and thus support in the further, sustainable design of the community area.
