In a private clinic in Berlin, an attacker killed during a lecture the chief physician of the local gastroenterology department Fritz von Weizsäcker. This was confirmed by a police spokeswoman on Tuesday evening. He was one of four children of former Federal President Richard von Weizsäcker.
The incident took place at around 6.50 pm in the private Schlosspark Clinic near the Charlottenburg Palace. Weizsäcker held a lecture on fatty liver at the time.
According to a police spokeswoman, he is said to have been suddenly attacked by a man. Another man from the auditorium was said to have intervened and been seriously injured. Weizsäcker died on the spot. The suspect was arrested and a homicide commission investigated. Experts investigated the crime scene.
The clinic is located at Schlosspark Charlottenburg. According to the website there are regular events, which are usually addressed to interested medical laymen who want to learn about diseases, their diagnosis and treatment options.
According to the website, the clinic has about 340 beds and participates in the emergency psychiatric care for Charlottenburg-North. There are specialist departments among others for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, Neurology, Orthopedics, Psychiatry and Internal Medicine such as Gastroenterology and Cardiology.
