The interview aired on October 24 and Sanders was advancing a possible scenario for the US presidential election.

And it is the scenario we are living after election day.

He has even hit the three states in question and that will depend on vote by mail: Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin.

In the interview, broadcast on

(NBC), Fallon asks Sanders about a possibility that was already being talked about then: that it was not known who was president until after a few days.

Sanders replied saying that it was something that worried him and that "every vote will have to be counted."

The senator already explained that "States like Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin" would receive "a large number of votes by mail" that would take days to count. The scenario that Sanders feared is similar to the one we have seen this election day: the recount, still in progress on Wednesday morning, is giving Trump the winner in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and Michigan.

But the result may change in the next few days, when vote-by-mail is added.

Biden has called for all votes to be counted, but Trump has already stood as the winner, demanded that the recount stop, and announced that he will take the scrutiny to court.

He has even tweeted that they were trying to steal his election, a message that Twitter has labeled "potentially misleading."

In these three states the vote does not begin to count until election night, as Sanders explains.

In the case of Pennsylvania and part of Michigan, the results could be known in days, as EL PAÍS collected, since in both there are more than a third of the total votes to be counted, probably more from the Democratic side.

The final results for Wisconsin were expected to be released the morning after the election, but the recount could take longer than expected.

Trump has been launching allegations of vote-by-mail election fraud for months, without any evidence and anticipating his post-election strategy.

Additionally, Pennsylvania has already been the subject of a recent court dispute over voting by mail.

The Supreme Court allowed a few days ago the recount of votes received "up to three days after" the November 3 elections, provided they are sealed that day.

The governor of this state, Democrat Tom Wolf, has warned on Twitter that all ballots will be counted.

In 2016 elections in Pennsylvania were decided in favor of Trump by just 80,000 votes.

The postal vote in this state is estimated at about three million.
