One of the side effects of stepping into the shoes of a leader who has served for 12 consecutive years is the constant comparison to your predecessor in office.

Some will see this as a curse and some will see it as a blessing, but every step Prime Minister Naftali Bennett will take will be compared to Benjamin Netanyahu.

Especially in times of national crisis, in which, in Bennett's words in a media statement last night, "leaders need to know how to make tough decisions."

But about two weeks ago, he mocked in a plenary speech about Netanyahu's dramatic breakthroughs to air at eight in the evening with a serious expression;

Since then, every Thursday, he does exactly the same thing.

Last week he attacked vaccine opponents, yesterday announcing the start of the third vaccination campaign.

At the end of the statement in Hebrew, he repeated the message in polished English.

I wonder who it mentions and how much comparison is required.

The Delta eruption, which devoured the entire government agenda in its first six weeks, has created a fertile ground for comparison, which for the time being is not doing well with its leader.

A few minutes after he finished speaking last night, in two polls published in News 12 and here a huge gap was discovered between him and his predecessor on the question of who was better manager and handleer of the plague - 46-42% for Netanyahu compared to 21-15% for Bennett.

And Netanyahu, in his new position as leader of the opposition, is also working hard to maintain the lead in consciousness: he identified the Delta as a strategic event several weeks ago, and began playing in Bennett and the public's ears with calls to Pfizer and Modern CEOs for third vaccinations this morning. That Bennett will accompany President Herzog to be the first complementary vaccine, the opposition leader will also stand for a third vaccination and will surely mention that he is the first to identify.

But in general, even without including Netanyahu in the equation, satisfaction and confidence in the government and in Corona are declining. Bennett detailed yesterday in a statement all the steps he takes and will take to maintain a routine of life alongside the rise in morbidity, but in public opinion there is a growing sense of lack of management and chaos.

As was the custom of his predecessor in the past, Bennett also did not summon journalists for statements to the media, and managed to evade harsh questions about the debate surrounding the start of the school year that has rocked the government in the past week. On Sunday, during a hearing at his office, he asked Education Minister Yifat Shasha Bitton and Health Minister Nitzan Horowitz to sit down "for dialogue" and find compromises on the issue of isolation and vaccinations in schools. Since then, both sides have been mostly preoccupied with anonymous slander, briefings and mutual leaks. Yesterday, the Prime Minister's Office issued a written statement in his name with praise for the cooperation and coordination and beauty of diversity and diversity, in the general comedy melody he sings at every opportunity. It was not very convincing.

In principle, Bennett is right, it is okay to have different opinions here and there, and it is possible and even desirable to question and ask questions about conventions that the professional echelon has adhered to.

It is easy and tempting to roll out the debate between Shasha Bitton and the head of the public health services, Sharon Elrai Price, as a personal and low confrontation.

But in fact these are substantive disputes over weighty issues that should be discussed in his room, rather than fuss with slander and reciprocal attacks over the airwaves.

And in the end - someone has to make a decision in them at the end.

This someone is Naftali Bennett, and the incident casts a shadow over him first and foremost.

It is easy to flatten the argument into a personal and low-key confrontation, but in fact these are substantive disputes.

For comparison, even in Netanyahu's corona cabinet, the debates over the opening of the school year continued until the last minute. This time, the Prime Minister, the Minister of Education and the Minister of Health have all three pledged that it will be different for them. By comparison, the Netanyahu government also had heated debates and friction with the professionals, which were reported in real time in serial leaks live. At Bennett, people talk directly to the media and skip the stage of the room, and in general there are few cabinet meetings. The result is the same - contradictory and confusing messages that gnaw at public trust.

The laughter of fate at the height of the chaos of the first wave, Bennett, sitting as defense minister, was the wayward voice fighting senior officials in the Ministry of Health. In his acclaimed opposition book "How to Beat the Plague" he accused then-CEO Moshe Bar-Siman Tov and head of public health services Sigal Sadecki of a misconception that closed the economy.

Now, he is in a different position, trying with all his might to avoid closure and curb the rise in morbidity, and as the Likudniks jokingly remind him of the title of the book, he seems very far from defeating the plague.

Shasha Bitton, in fact, fills his former place, as a voice that challenges conventions and quarrels with Ministry of Health officials.

And like him in the past, she also makes a media round about it, which raises the nerves of some of her cabinet members who claim she has fallen in love with the position, but mostly - hurts herself.

Her cabinet colleagues claim she fell in love with the rebellious position.

Shasha Bitton does not deny Corona nor does she oppose vaccines, but she finds it difficult to publicize the complexity of her positions, to say the least. Since the battles with Netanyahu in the Corona Committee, she has been labeled a troublemaker who harms the joint effort and even now in the Likud, the coalition is burning with joy with great joy from the outside. The use of the word "crime" about vaccines in schools at News Studio 12 this week, while the prime minister calls on youth to get vaccinated, has bolstered anyone trying to mark her as an illusory populist, inside and outside the government, and there is no shortage of such.

Some ministers think that Bennett should call her to order, and not settle for a tense remark about the style in four-way talks, and her party chairman, Gideon Saar, should object to her positions and statements. Both, meanwhile, treat her very carefully. That he would threaten to fire her, thus trying to put her in place.Bennett tries a different management style and decision-making, inclusive and collaborative, and from the beginning, structurally, he has no other choice. In a narrow coalition where each party is a Libra and based on Cole's point, a prime minister with six Mandates simply do not have the political power to be a single scary and threatening ruler like its predecessor. In the end, any comparison between them must take this into account.
