Putin responds to Biden after strong statement 0:16
(CNN) -
The first face-to-face meeting between US President Joe Biden and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin is expected to be in Switzerland next month, two US officials told CNN.
Meanwhile, the White House and the Kremlin are nearing finalizing arrangements for the summit this week.
Officials said Geneva will host the long-discussed meeting between the two leaders, who are expected to meet June 15-16 at the conclusion of Biden's first international trip since taking office.
The White House sent National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan to Geneva this week to meet with his Russian counterpart, authorities said, while details of the meeting between Biden and Putin are being worked out.
A White House spokesman declined to comment on the final location of the host city until all the details were defined.
