(CNN) - Biscuits and Gravy, the two-faced kitten, died days after capturing the hearts of animal lovers around the world.

The adorable kitten, born May 20 on an Oregon farm, died just three days after her birth. He was one of six kittens born to Keenly, a cat from the King family.

Biscuits and Gravy had two noses, four eyes, and two tiny mouths. He had a single brain stem, but he could eat, suck, and mew from both faces. At first, it had gone very well, according to the family vet.

“He ate a lot, urinated and defecated a lot. It just didn't grow. It's hard work for a little one like him to hold a big head with two full faces, ”wrote the family on the Facebook page that tracked the progress of Biscuits and Gravy.

Two-faced cats are known as "Janus" cats, named after the Roman god Janus, who had two faces, one looking into the past and the other looking into the future.

Although these rare kittens generally don't survive for more than a day, a two-faced cat named Frank and Louie defied the odds and lived for 15 years, even appearing in the Guinness World Records book in 2006.

Biscuits and Gravy "was born with the highest probability and by living almost 4 days, he surpassed those probabilities," the King family said on Facebook.

To care for him, the King family had to take over much of Keenly's maternal duties. That included regular meals and keeping it warm.

Shortly before Biscuits and Gravy died, the King family posted a short tribute on Facebook.

Biscuits and Gravy is definitely a gift, God allowed this little miracle to enter our lives for some reason. My hope and prayer is that the love and sacrifice of Jesus are shown through this little life ”, they expressed.

The King family had decided to keep Biscuits and Gravy and give away the rest of the litter, which was born healthy. But by Saturday night they were mourning their loss.

“We thank all of you who have been so kind, prayed and wished the best for Biscuits and Gravy. Many of you worried and wanted to follow your progress, and some said very good things about us. We will never forget your kindness, ”said the family on Facebook.
