It was an incredible crime: In Bogenhausen, the then 17-year-old Joshua M. stabbed his 14-year-old girlfriend Leila in cold blood while she was sleeping.

He was convicted of murder.

But now he wants to appeal his verdict.

Munich - He stabbed ice cold - and was convicted of murder.

But Joshua M. (18) does not want to accept his verdict.

After the fatal stabbing of his 14-year-old girlfriend, the defense and prosecutors have now appealed the 18-year-old's verdict.

The young man was sentenced last week to eight years and nine months for murder.

The Munich I Regional Court also reserved the right to order preventive detention.

A spokesman for the court in Munich said that both parties had now appealed the verdict in good time.

During the murder trial, Joshua M. confessed to stabbing his girlfriend while she was sleeping.

The 14-year-old's mother found the girl dead in bed in October last year.

According to the findings of the youth chamber, the accused, who was 17 at the time of the crime, "deliberately and in cold blood" killed his then girlfriend - who was 14 at the time of the crime - while she was sleeping with a targeted knife stab in the heart on October 24, 2021.

The court assumed the murder characteristics of insidiousness and base motives.

Munich: The defendant had “planned for several days” to murder his girlfriend with a knife

The defendant had planned the crime "several days beforehand and had bought what later became a crime knife for this purpose".

Regarding the murder characteristic of insidiousness, the court stated that the victim had been killed in the supposedly safest place imaginable: sleeping in her own bed in her parents' house.

After the murder verdict, now the revision!

The reasons for this are not yet available, but the public prosecutor's office had also requested accommodation in a psychiatric hospital in their plea.

The defense attorney, on the other hand, will presumably object to the youth penalty, which is higher than her claim, and to the possible preventive detention later on.

The case now goes to the Federal Court of Justice in Karlsruhe;

a decision can be expected there in about seven to eight months, said the court spokesman.
