British Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Tuesday took an unprecedented move against China, declaring that his country would accept over three million Hong Kong citizens in response to deepening Chinese control over autonomy.

Johnson stated that his country would provide visa entry and a naturalization route for nearly half of the formerly autonomous British colony if Beijing worked to enforce last week's National Security Act, which would allow Chinese security forces to operate autonomously for the first time Practically, her independence from China.

Boris Johnson: "We will not turn our back on Hong Kong"

Johnson's promise was given in a column written for The London Times, and it could bring an influx of refugees from the city suffering an unprecedented economic slump, growing protest and a sense of crunch under Beijing's authoritarian rule.

This is not only during an unprecedented tension with China, which threatened Britain last week not to interfere with Hong and China's domestic affairs, but with the most dramatic change of any government's immigration policy in British history.

"Many people in Hong Kong are afraid of losing their way of life, the one China is committed to, and feels it is under threat. If China continues to justify these fears, the United Kingdom will not be able to shrug its shoulders and leave, instead, honor our commitments and offer an alternative." British PM wrote.

The law was overwhelmingly approved

In the fifth, the Chinese parliament largely approved the controversial security laws. The new laws, according to the Chinese government, are intended to prevent foreign intervention and entry of terrorists into the city. The foreign approved, straining relations with the United States and the United Kingdom and causing the thousands to take to the streets.

The law was overwhelmingly approved by 2,878 against only one opponent and 6 abstentions, in a vote taken under health restrictions following the Corona epidemic.

The approval means a change to the Hong Kong Constitution, as well as the Basic Laws and Territories and to add the National Security Law drafted by the Chinese leadership and the National People's Committee on Legislation to go over the details. Social activists in Hong Kong argue that the law could undermine civil rights and may suppress political activity.

During the vote, three pro-democracy lawmakers were removed from the Hong Kong Legislature during a heated debate over the bill that would address issues like the change and use of the Chinese anthem in the city. At the same time, China canceled a UN meeting with the British Security Council to discuss the bill and its implications scheduled for yesterday. The Chinese ambassador tweeted in his Twitter account, writing that Hong Kong affairs are "China's internal affairs only."
