The DAV section Schliersee is making slow progress with its plan to secure the path on the Brecherspitz-West Ridge.

In the meantime, however, an order has been placed.

Spitzingsee - Before you can boldly tackle it, there is often a lot of paperwork to do in Germany.

The DAV section Schliersee has now also made this experience.

The government of Upper Bavaria has stapled a whole list of requirements for the Schliersee DAV section on the grant notice for road safety on the Brecherspitz-Westgrat.

The first of these influenced the project before it even started.

“We weren't allowed to hire a specialist company directly, but had to get at least three offers first,” reports section chairman Marius Neudeck when asked by our newspaper.

Means: The renovation, which had been planned for months, was pushed back again by a few weeks.

In the meantime, however, the order has been placed.

During an inspection, DAV route officer Robert Viehweger, together with representatives of the company, completed the material list and agreed on the existing requirements for implementation.

Almost every move is subject to conditions - implementation in practice is still unclear

They go down to the last detail and cover almost every step of the renovation measure.

An excerpt: Noise-intensive work or helicopter flights are only permitted between August 1st and October 31st.

Work can begin at the earliest one and a half hours after sunrise and at the latest one and a half hours before sunset, primarily in dry weather.

The path must not be widened compared to the existing structure and must be designed “as close to nature and as natural as possible” so as not to impair the “high quality landscape”.

The construction site should be set up outside of sensitive areas, if possible on areas that have already been “used”.

Excess material must be removed and properly recycled.

In addition, the DAV must coordinate with the Mangfallgebirge area manager, Florian Bossert, in advance and agree on the routes of the necessary helicopter flights with him.

Costs for the 35 meter long section are shared

How it all works in practice has not yet been conclusively determined. According to Neudeck, the material could first be brought to the Upper Firstalm and then transported to the deployment site on the west ridge by helicopter, mules from the mountain hunters or volunteers. Viehweger will take care of the details and the exact schedule. However, he was not available at the request of our newspaper. This also leaves an open question as to whether and when the route will be blocked.

As reported, the securing of the fall-prone section with a length of a good 35 meters is being carried out in a joint effort by DAV, municipality / building yard and the Bavarian State Forests as landowners.

Due to the traffic safety obligation for the route, the project management lies with the Schliersee Alpine Club section.

The section (3300 euros) and the DAV main association (5000 euros) share the financing of laying the handrail rope directly on the ridge, which costs around 16,500 euros.

The above-mentioned grant from the government of Upper Bavaria amounts to 8,300 euros.

With five fatal falls at one point, the west ridge of the Brecherspitz had become a hot spot for mountain hikers in recent years.

After discussions about the implementation, the parties reached an agreement last year.
