(ANSA) - BRUSSELS, NOVEMBER 25 - The European Commission proposes to update the rules on European and municipal elections for EU citizens residing in a member state other than their nationality, the so-called "mobile citizens".
The initiative concerns about 13.5 million people: among these very few exercise the right to vote in European and municipal elections.
In order to ensure inclusive participation in the European elections of 2024, Brussels proposes targeted amendments to existing directives on electoral rights, including the obligation to inform mobile citizens of their rights, the use of standardized templates for registration as voters or candidates, and the use of the language spoken by local residents.
