The two most important players were injured, Mahmoud Dahoud flew off with a wave - it was a bad evening for Marco Rose. And thus a good one for the Gladbach fans.

Scene of the game:

Without wanting to judge the quality of the game too harshly, but the goal of the day could actually only come about with the addition of a good helping of chance.

Dortmund's Raphaël Guerreiro involuntarily directed Lars Stindl's cross to Denis Zakaria, who played a one-two with Matthias Ginter (very nice) and got the ball back after a rebound from Jude Bellingham (very accidentally) and overcame BVB goalkeeper Gregor Kobel with a lot Conviction (37th minute).

Result:

Borussia Mönchengladbach won the Saturday evening game of the 6th Bundesliga matchday 1-0 (1-0) against Borussia Dortmund.

Dortmund's heads were missing:

Captain Marco Reus (one goal of the season, four assists) and striker Erling Haaland (seven goals, four assists) had to pass on Dortmund's side due to injury. At Gladbach, coach Adi Hütter changed four times, including defensive routine Tony Jantschke for his first league appearance this season.

First half:

After just 30 seconds, Zakaria rushed into Bellingham and caused a veritable pack formation. Referee Deniz Aytekin got by without a warning, which should not stay that way: Mahmoud Dahoud, already charged with a yellow card after a tactical foul, fouled Joe Scally in the 40th minute, waved his hand and had to leave the field. Three minutes after the Gladbach opening goal, the next setback for BVB. "We deserve a minimum of respect," Aytekin said after the game.

Rose's return with a whistle:

The change of coach Marco Rose, who moved from Mönchengladbach to Dortmund in the summer, had caused displeasure in the Gladbach fan scene. Sports director Max Eberl had asked for restraint, which did not prevent numerous posters and even more whistles. The Gladbach fans did not want to unsettle the Gladbach fans that they had used an almost identical procedure to that of BVB for Rose when they joined the coach Hütter from Frankfurt. But a little irrational turmoil isn't the worst thing for the Bundesliga.

Second half:

There was a lot of gesticulation, frequent fouling and occasional football. A game at a clear level dragged itself towards the final whistle. As expected, the new BVB offensive, consisting of Donyell Malen and Youssoufa Moukoko, did not develop the punch of the absent Haaland and Reus. But even as an overall construction, BVB remained defensively stable in the minority, but developed little danger forward. The hosts had better opportunities through Jonas Hofmann (55th), Luca Netz (56th) and Zakaria (74th). In stoppage time there was still a big chance for BVB - but Thorgan Hazard headed just over the goal of Yann Sommer (90 + 1).

Debut with an asterisk:

After just four working days in Gladbach, Kouadio Koné injured his knee and was out for a long time. Last week he was in the squad for the first time in the 1-0 defeat in Augsburg, and he played against BVB from the start. The 20-year-old Frenchman started out hectically in midfield, but improved from minute to minute and when he was substituted after 73 minutes, he was greeted with much applause. Eberl is said to have paid almost nine million euros for the potential Zakaria successor. Now Zakaria is still there and Koné is also ready. There are worse constellations.

Adi redeemed:

Borussia Mönchengladbach had just collected four points in the first five league games.

In view of this balance sheet, the new coach Hütter should have been happy about the massive issue of Rose's return, as it replaced probing questions about the Austrian's bumpy start of work.

This has now achieved the first prestige success at the new workplace, which establishes the connection to the table center field.
