Bundesliga: Hertha BSC wins when Bobic returns to Eintracht Frankfurt

Chaos in Berlin instead of the European Cup with Frankfurt - for Hertha's Fredi Bobic it was an unusual but successful away trip. Dortmund won thanks to returnees Haaland and Freiburg scored a point in the new stadium.

Fredi Bobic was the sports director in Frankfurt until the summer before he moved to Berlin - and thus not only ensured understanding. Especially since he is not touring Europe with the Frankfurters, but basically has to start over at Hertha: The start of the season showed this with only six points from seven games and two disastrous defeats against Bayern (0: 5) and Leipzig (0: 6) . Bobic's return was a successful one, as it became clear early on: Vladimir Daria curled a cross towards the second post in the sixth minute, Marco Richter brushed the ball with his head and steered it into the far corner (7th minute).

Hertha missed a higher lead through Krzysztof Piątek (18th), Frankfurt's most dangerous scene remained a deflected shot by Kristijan Jakić, which goalkeeper Alexander Schwolow parried (28th).

In the second round, the recently substituted summer signing Jurgen Ekkelenkamp made the alleged preliminary decision (63rd).

Presumably because Gonçalo Paciência scored a penalty in the 78th minute.

Frankfurt had hardly contributed much to this, but Herthas Schwolow and Niklas Stark had hindered each other in the penalty area before the ball jumped to Paciência and Schwolow fouled the striker.

But it was no longer enough to compensate.

Thanks to a win against Mainz, Borussia Dortmund took over the top position in the Bundesliga, at least temporarily.

At BVB, star striker Erling Haaland returned after recent muscular problems, but the first upset belonged to a team-mate: Marco Reus quickly put Dortmund in the lead with a well-placed and hard shot into the top corner of the goal (3rd).

And there could have been more goals for BVB.

In the 22nd minute, the almost 62,000 spectators in Dortmund - the previous season record for a Bundesliga game - saw another good opportunity from Thomas Meunier, who passed the goal just to the left.

Almost at half-time, first Haaland and then Jude Bellingham gave away more top chances to make it 2-0.

The preliminary decision was made in the 56th minute after a controversial hand penalty, Haaland executed it with a shot in the middle.

For a moment it got exciting again when Jonathan Burkhardt scored 1: 2 as a result of an unsuccessful tee from Gregor Kobel (87th).

With Haaland's second goal in stoppage time, everything was clear.

Leverkusen and Bayern Munich will meet on Sunday (3:30 p.m.);

the winner of this encounter (both 16 points) would again overtake BVB (18) in the table.

After 67 years, the Freiburg team moved from the venerable Dreisam Stadium to the northwest of the city, to the Europa-Park Stadium. The premiere was a promising one, both teams missed top-class chances: Freiburg's Jeong Woo-yeong put the ball just wide of the post from close range (12th), Leipzig's Emil Forsberg missed the goal alone in front of keeper Mark Flekken (18th). Referee Daniel Seibert caused the damper in the new stadium in the 31st minute with his penalty whistle after a duel between Christopher Nkunku and Philipp Lienhart: Forsberg transformed.

Before the break, however, the Leipzigers became more passive and staggered downright towards compensation. Shortly before the half-time whistle, Lucas Höler failed from an acute angle on the left inner post and was also unlucky that the ball hit the post against the foot of goalkeeper Péter Gulácsi and only just over the crossbar (45th). The trend continued in the second half - and Freiburg equalized: The dangerous Jeong headed a sharp cross from Vincenzo Grifo from close range into the goal (64th). A Freiburg victory prevented Gulácsi, who parried a Höler header in the final phase (85th).

For Wolfsburg and coach Mark van Bommel things continue to decline, the club conceded their third Bundesliga defeat in a row at Union (0: 2). The Berliners, on the other hand, have consolidated their place in the top third and are now in fifth place. The most exciting scene of the first half occurred in the 25th minute: Wolfsburg's Lukas Nmecha broke through the left side and then passed the ball sharply in front of the goal to Dodi Lukébakio, but the entrance from Hertha BSC pushed the ball free-standing right post.

Shortly after the break, Taiwo Awoniyi gave Berlin the lead (49th minute), after a nice pass from Genki Haraguchi, the Union striker pushed the ball through the legs of Wolfsburg goalkeeper Koen Casteels and was a little lucky. For Awoniyi it was already the sixth goal of the season. At 0: 2, Casteels was unlucky again when he was able to fend off a Sheraldo Becker header briefly, but too indecisively, the ball then rolled a few centimeters over the line (83rd).

The game of the two newcomers was characterized by a cautious demeanor.

Neither team wanted to risk defeat, especially since both Fürth and Bochum found themselves at the bottom of the table before the game.

Fittingly, the only hit fell through a standard;

Anthony Losilla headed a free-kick cross from the left into the goal on a five (81st).

Bochum climbs from the penultimate place in the table, Fürth remains last with only one point.
