Bundesliga: Schalke 04 striker Simon Terodde is only a little short of the record

2021-09-27T11:16:35.752Z

Dieter Schatzschneider scored 153 goals in the second division. But the record should not last too long, as Schalke's Simon Terodde showed against Hansa Rostock again. Only the post got in the way.

Hardly any player has represented the 2nd Bundesliga like Simon Terodde for years. Now the 33-year-old Schalke 04 striker is about to hit a record: With two goals in the 2-0 (1-0) at Hansa Rostock, Terodde only needs one hit to set Dieter Schatzschneider's second division goal record. Schatzschneider scored a total of 153 goals in the 2nd Bundesliga between 1978 and 1987, Terodde has 152 goals after the game in Rostock.

For Schalke, Terodde is of inestimable value this season: With his nine and ten goals (Schalke scored a total of 13 goals) in Rostock, he ensured that Schalke reported back with a win after the defeat against Karlsruhe. The newcomer made the game against the relegated in the first half. Nik Omladic, who failed to free in front of the goal to Martin Fraisl, and John Verhoek, who failed to hit the ball correctly in the margin in front of an empty goal (11th minute), gave the greatest chance.

Although Schalke mostly followed in the first half, they scored the goal.

After a long ball, Thomas Ouwejan got the ball on the left and brought it sharply to the first post: Terodde headed in flight for the lead (42.).

The striker didn't need as much time for the second goal in the second half as in the first: Mehmet Aydin took a cross from Dominick Drexler in the penalty area, made a hook and put aside, Terodde only had to insert (49th).

Post prevents (for the time being) record

The Schatzschneider record almost fell on Saturday evening, but after a free-kick from Ouwejan Terodde only headed the inside post (57th).

It was enough to win Schalke.

Rostock's most dangerous scene was a blocked shot by Calogero Rizzuto, after which referee Arne Aarnink initially decided on Ouwejan's penalty, but corrected the decision based on the video images.

Otherwise Rostock was hardly dangerous, which was also due to a strong control of the penalty area by Schalke keeper Fraisl.

The Schalke summer access was preferred to captain Ralf Fährmann.
