Lots of mistakes, hardly successful offensive actions, insecurity in possession of the ball and almost no pressure on the opponent - the Friday evening game of the 7th match day between Werder Bremen and 1. FC Köln ended with no winners.
Bremen's Niklas Moisander scored in his own goal (67th minute), Leonardo Bittencourt converted a hand penalty (82nd) to make it 1-1.
The last time the FC won the league was on March 6th, when it was 2-1 at SC Paderborn.
The Cologne team gave the SW Werder the first chance of the game: Marius Wolf missed a back pass, Jean-Manuel Mbom came to the conclusion, but FC goalkeeper Timo Horn was more attentive than his front men after 45 seconds and prevented an early goal.
Then came first: little to nothing.
After 22 minutes, Wolf saw a yellow card for a leg that was way too high - that was on the verge of red. Shortly before the break, Horn had to be replaced after an injury after a collision with Josh Sargent.
For him, ex-national player Ron-Robert Zieler made his debut at the Kölner Tor.
That's it for the excitement in a hugely disappointing first half.
In the second half, Bremen tried it against low Cologne with more speed, but opportunities remained scarce.
On the other side, Sebastian Andersson headed for a cross from Wolf on Bremen goal.
That was the first goal of the sixteenth in the table after an hour.
Opportunities only arose after defensive errors and consequently the Cologne opening goal fell after one: Moisander extended a cross from Ondrej Duda with the long leg into his own net (67th).
The unlucky fellow in the FC jersey was Sebastiaan Bornauw: He got the ball on his forearm in his own penalty area, and Bittencourt converted the penalty (82).
In stoppage time, Zieler captured the win with a Sargent header.
After the international break, Bremen will continue at Bayern Munich (Saturday, November 21, 3:30 p.m.), while 1. FC Köln will receive Union Berlin (Sunday, November 28, 6 p.m.).
