Timo Werner can celebrate a goal on his return to the Bundesliga, but not a win for his team from Leipzig: RB could not get past a 2-2 (1-1) win against 1. FC Köln with a man down.

Eintracht Frankfurt, who only played 1-1 (0-1) at a slightly improved Hertha in Berlin, also fell short of expectations.

Werder Bremen played in a dramatic game against VfB Stuttgart 2: 2 (1: 1), VfL Bochum even lost a two-goal cushion at TSG Hoffenheim and lost 2: 3 (2: 2).

FC Augsburg surprisingly defeated Bayer Leverkusen 2-1 (1-1).

Hertha BSC can still play football well, but Eintracht Frankfurt did not win in the third competitive game in a row: After the 1: 6 defeat against FC Bayern and the 0: 2 in the Uefa Supercup against Real Madrid, it was enough for the SGE in the third game within eight days to a point in Berlin.

After a poor opening performance at Stadrivalen Union, Hertha played on par against Eintracht and took an early lead: Daichi Kamada lost the ball in midfield, Dodi Lukebakio got the pass on the right wing and hit a high cross into the penalty area, where Suat Serdar beat Ansgar Knauff with a header (3rd minute).

In the second half, Kamada made amends for his mistake and completed a switching attack by Eintracht to equalize (48').

Both teams still had chances of victory, Lukebakio was conspicuous for Hertha (61', 62'), for Frankfurt Kamada missed from a promising position after the Japanese tried to use a somewhat imprecise pass from the wing in the penalty area (63'). .

In the final phase, a penalty whistle was withdrawn in favor of Frankfurt after video evidence.

A few days after his return to Leipzig, international striker Timo Werner, signed by Chelsea, was in the RB starting XI.

And after nine minutes he initially celebrated the supposed lead by team-mate Dani Olmo - until the Spaniard's technically fine flick was denied due to a previous handball using video evidence.

Cologne got into the game better and had several chances to take the lead.

Until Werner scored himself this time: Cologne goalkeeper Marvin Schwäbe let an actually harmless long-range shot from the returnee slip through his hands (36').

However, RB didn't stay in front for long, Florian Dietz' first Bundesliga goal immediately equalized (40').

The next setback for Leipzig followed in stoppage time in the first half: Dominik Szoboszlai saw a red card after an arm attack against Florian Kainz's neck and thus put RB outnumbered.

After a goal from Werner's strike partner, "Footballer of the Year" Christopher Nkunku, Leipzig was briefly ahead again (56th).

An own goal by central defender Josko Gvardiol after a Cologne corner gave the guests a well-deserved point (72').

SV Werder Bremen was only able to partially confirm the strong impression after being promoted back to the Bundesliga against Stuttgart.

Niclas Füllkrug celebrated early on: the center forward put his Bremen team ahead with his second goal of the season (4th).

A violent shot from the edge of the penalty area almost meant Füllkrug's next goal, but the crossbar prevented the impact (9').

Stuttgart's captain Wataru Endo, who lost the ball before the 0-1 draw, scored a long-range shot from 20 meters for VfB, who were now getting stronger (38').

In the second half, Stuttgart was the dominant team in the Weser Stadium, a goal by Silas Katompa Mvumpa (77th) initially turned the game in favor of the guests.

But because substitute Oliver Burke put the ball past VfB keeper Florian Müller with the last chance of the game (90 + 5), the clubs shared the points.

VfL Bochum was not rewarded for a courageous start at TSG Hoffenheim.

Coach Thomas Reis' team lost 2:3 (2:2) after early goals in Sinsheim.

Simon Zoller (10th and 13th minute) gave the guests a double lead from close range in the early stages, Christoph Baumgartner (14', right-footed shot) and Ozan Kabak (23') with a header equalized for TSG before the break .

Then Munas Dabbur (88th) scored the late Hoffenheim winner.

At Hoffenheim, newcomer Angeliño (from RB Leipzig) played from the start.

TSG also dominated the game in the first half, but could hardly develop any danger forward after the goals.

At the back, Andre Breitenreiter's team remained vulnerable to counterattacks, even if Bochum seemed to have lost courage after conceding offensive accents.

The game was largely even in the second half.

Hoffenheim missed the decision in the 59th minute: Manuel Riemann saved a half-shot penalty from Andrej Kramarić.

Dabbur corrected his colleague's dropout in the closing stages.

Despite the playful superiority, Bayer Leverkusen dropped points against FC Augsburg and lost 1: 2 (1: 1).

Coach Gerardo Seoane's team fell behind after an early goal from Fredrik Jensen (15 minutes) before Charles Aránguiz (43') equalized just before half-time.

In the final phase of the game, André Hahn (82nd) scored to lead the visitors again.

The Augsburgers largely left the game to Leverkusen in front of 23,000 spectators, but took advantage of a build-up mistake by the opponent with a steep pass down Jensen's path to take the lead.

They then impressed with disciplined defensive work before Aránguiz scored from the back row.

Bayer increased the pressure again in the second half, but a goal by Aránguiz (69') was disallowed due to a previous foul.

Hahn finally scored the happy decision in favor of the guests from 18 meters to the inside of the post.
