There has never been a trans person in the Bundestag in the history of the Federal Republic of Germany.
That will change after the general election.
With Nyke Slawik and Tessa Ganserer, two transgender politicians secure a place in parliament.
"Tessa Ganserer is safe in there," said a spokeswoman for the Bavarian Greens in Munich.
In her constituency of Nuremberg North shortly before the end of the count, Ganserer was far behind the CSU direct candidate Sebastian Brehm, but she has her place on the state list of the Bavarian Greens.
There Ganserer was in 13th place.
Ganserer has been a member of the Bavarian state parliament since 2013.
In 2018, the 44-year-old entered the state parliament for a second time under her original name, Markus Ganserer.
At the beginning of 2019, she came out as transgender and has since been addressed as Tessa Ganserer in the state parliament.
Slawik can also look forward to a seat in the Bundestag.
"I still can't quite believe it, but with this historic election result I will definitely belong to the next Bundestag," tweeted the Green politician.
Slawik was also unable to win the direct mandate in the Leverkusen - Cologne IV constituency, but she also succeeds in entering the Bundestag via NRW state list position 11.
With the first votes, Slawik is in third place after counting 69 of the 123 electoral districts with around 13.5 percent of the votes.
Clearly ahead in this constituency is the SPD health politician Karl Lauterbach.
According to the partial count, he received 43.8 percent of the vote.
The CDU Secretary of State for Integration Serap Güler, a confidante of Union Chancellor candidate Armin Laschet, is far behind in second place.
According to the partial results, she received 16.7 percent of the first votes.
