Eddie Komboigo, the president of the Burkina Faso Congress for Democracy and Progress (CDP), party of ex-president Blaise Compaoré ousted in 2014, was nominated Sunday presidential candidate by his training. Eddie Komboigo, 56, was appointed by members of the CDP's high council, the national executive office and the provincial secretaries after a vote won by 133 votes to 21 to his rival, Yahaya Zoungrana.

The choice of Eddie Komboigo will have to be ratified by Blaise Compaoré, honorary president of the CDP, who has lived in exile in Abidjan since his fall in October 2014, overthrown by the street after 27 years in power. Then it will have to be invested during a congress, according to the party. At the head of the CDP since May 2015, this chartered accountant who made a fortune at the head of an audit firm was not among the party barons of the time when he reigned without sharing. He was previously a member of the National Assembly. Already a presidential candidate in 2015, Eddie Komboigo had seen his candidacy rejected under a law excluding those close to Compaoré who had supported his plan to amend the constitution to stay in power, which project had ultimately caused his downfall. .
