Business associations are calling for a "practical check" for new laws

Pandemic, climate crisis, digitization: Germany is facing major tasks. As a solution, central associations of the German economy are calling for a reduction in bureaucracy - and for it to be incorporated into legislation at an early stage.

Shortly before the Regulatory Control Council presented its annual report on the state of bureaucracy in Germany, the central associations of German business expressed a clear opinion: Germany needs less of it. "Excessive bureaucracy inhibits entrepreneurial activity, innovation and urgently needed investments," said the President of the Federation of German Industry, Siegfried Russwurm. Important tasks such as the implementation of the climate targets can be mastered more quickly.

Business representatives should be involved in the legislation, added the President of the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Peter Adrian.

"It is important to involve business in the legislative process at an early stage so that regulations are made more effective, more practical and modern." He suggested a "practical check" so that potential weaknesses in planned laws can be identified before they are implemented.

The President of the Central Association of German Craftsmen, Hans Peter Wollseifer, also demanded that the guidelines should "be more closely aligned with the reality of everyday life in companies."

The country needs digitization

Germany must finally become more digital, says Rainer Dulger, President of the Confederation of German Employers' Associations.

"What we need is the big hit, a digital breakthrough across the country."

The National Regulatory Control Council, which will present its annual report on Thursday, is an independent advisory body to the federal government.

Its task is to reduce bureaucracy and make it transparent, and thus to reduce the costs of administration for citizens and the economy.

Chancellor Angela Merkel should also be present at the presentation of the report.
