But heavy fell on England upon the death of Jackie Charlton. The 1963 World Champion with the Three Lions squad, Bobby's brother the legendary Manchester United player, and who is considered one of Leeds United's biggest icons in the media playing 23 years, passed away today at the age of 85 when he was with his family.
Charlton made 35 appearances in the England national team and partnered in all the 1966 World Cup matches, including a 2: 4 victory in Germany's final at Wembley Stadium. Charlton was part of the largest Leeds history team that won the England Championship in 1964 when he also picked the Whites League Cup in 1968 and the English Cup in 1972.
The family released a statement that reads: "Jackie passed away at his home when he was reduced to his side. As he was a good friend of everyone, so was he a great husband, father and grandfather. We are proud of the extraordinary life he had and the pride he brought to so many people. Be a real, nice and funny person. "
