Passengers on the Berlin subway will have to wait a little longer for the trains from Monday.

After the bus service, the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG) are also thinning out the timetables for the subways.

The background to this is the increasing number of sick and quarantine cases in the current corona wave.

A total of 4.8 percent of the usual trips are eliminated, the company announced on Thursday.

Berlin - Wherever possible, the largest possible vehicles would be used.

"The entire network will continue to be served reliably."

On the subway lines 2, 5, 6 and 9, a five-minute cycle applies from Monday to daytime, currently the clocks are a bit denser in rush hours.

Passengers waited no more than a minute longer from Monday, the BVG assured.

The U2 and U8 only run every ten minutes on their sections in Spandau and Reinickendorf, and there is also a ten-minute interval on the U4.

The tram lines M5 and M6 run every ten minutes during the day from Monday.

"Berlin can rely on the BVG," said operations manager Rolf Erfurt.

The adjustments should therefore ensure that buses and trains will continue to run reliably in the coming weeks.

Bus traffic has thinned out a bit since Wednesday.

From Monday, 21 of the 150 lines will be affected, especially on connections with several lines.

"All sections and stops in the Berlin bus network will continue to be served," it said.

At least a ten-minute cycle applies to the Metrobus lines.
