The Syrian national football team exited the Arab Cup held in Qatar after losing to Mauritania today, with a goal against two goals, in the match that brought them together in the third and final round of the group stage.
Our team finished third in the first round for the second group behind Tunisia and the UAE, who qualified for the quarter-finals by coming first and second, respectively, while Mauritania ranked fourth and last with three points.
Our team defeated its Tunisian counterpart 2-0 in the second round, while it lost to the UAE team in the first round with two goals to one.
Returning to the course of the match, the first half, which ended without goals, did not witness serious opportunities, with the exception of some shots that lacked focus, most notably Mahmoud El Bahr's header, which was blocked by the Mauritanian goalkeeper.
In the 50th minute, the Mauritanian team managed to open the scoring with a goal by Mohamed Soueid, while our team equalized two minutes after Mahmoud Al-Bahr's shot, and the attacks continued, and our team had chances to score. The Mauritanian in the 83rd minute, and from a sudden ball in stoppage time, the Mauritanian team scored its second goal through Tangi fever, to end the match with a 2-1 victory for Mauritania.
