Resignations from the municipal council are linked in Coatréven, in the Côtes d'Armor, after the conviction of the mayor for sexual assault

Nothing is going well in Coatréven (Côtes-d'Armor).

On April 8, the mayor, Yves Le Rolland, was sentenced to six months suspended prison sentence for sexual assault on a former municipal councilor of this town of 500 inhabitants.

He would have touched his lower abdomen and chest during a discussion, near the town hall.

If he has since appealed, the announcement of the judgment shook the city council. A few days ago, a sixth elected resigned. Assistant for school affairs, Franky Demeersseman, like the others, discovered in the press the conviction of the mayor at the head of the town since 2014. “We are not here to judge but I think there is a loss of confidence inhabitants, ”he remarks. He thought Yves Le Rolland was going to quit on his own.

In an article published in Ouest-France, he had indeed explained that he wished to continue to exercise his functions but only on condition of having the consent of his team.

However, five city councilors, including the first deputy, had resigned in the wake of the announcement of the sentence.

For Franky Demeersseman, the word was not kept.

In addition to the treatment of this crisis, the elected official explains that he has broader disagreements with Yves Le Rolland concerning the management of the town.

“This story was the straw that broke the camel's back”.

New by-elections will be organized in early September.

An alternative list should be presented.

Contacted, the mayor did not wish to speak.
