The government today (Monday) approved the appointment of Ronen Bar as head of the GSS. In doing so, his name was allowed to be published. Bar, 55, who lives in the Sharon area, served as deputy head of the organization Nadav Argaman for three years, and will replace him in two days. It came after the senior appointments committee determined that "no defect was found in his chastity," including an examination of the anonymous letter against him

.

He began his military service as a fighter in the General Staff Reconnaissance Regiment in 1983. After excelling in the track and later also in operational activities, he took an officers' course and returned as a unit commander under the command of Amar Bar-Lev, later Minister of Internal Security. In 1987 he was discharged from the unit and went on to become a citizen but continued to hold positions in the reserve.

He later enlisted in the General Security Service as a fighter in the operations unit that operates in all sectors and performs, among other things, offensive operations.

R. rapidly rose through the ranks as a commander in the war against Palestinian terrorism but also operated in Lebanon.

"This is a very brave warrior and commander, the kind he saw in the eyes of many terrorists," said his comrades-in-arms, who defined him as a cool-tempered and creative warrior in stressful situations.

Even then he was marked as someone who would continue up the road to key positions in the secret organization, and so it was.

He was appointed head of the Operations Branch, head of the Operations Unit and then head of the Operations Division, when in 2012 he was ultimately responsible for the opening operation of Operation Pillar of Cloud: Hamas' targeted thwarting of the military wing commander Ahmad Jabari.

This action affects to this day the extremist Sunni organization.

In 2016, he was appointed head of the AGM and in 2018, he was appointed Argaman's deputy.

"He is very creative. Does not rest on laurels. Always strives for touch."

Despite sympathy in the organization, an anonymous letter written in 2019 and redistributed after Bennett announced his election to the position attributed to him inappropriate behavior.

The letter was originally sent to former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other government ministers after Shabar was appointed deputy head of the GSS.
