At least 53 people were killed in a bus accident in Cameroon.
The bus caught fire after a collision with a pickup truck loaded with fuel.
This was announced by the Governor of the West Province, Awa Fonka Augustine.
He spoke of 29 seriously injured.
According to the information, the dead could not yet be identified because they were disfigured by the burns.
The accident occurred around 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday night in an accident-prone, rocky area in western Cameroon.
The governor named fog as a possible cause of the accident, and according to initial investigations, the small truck had a defect in the brakes.
According to media reports, there were more than 80 people in the bus at the time of the accident - although the vehicle is said to have only been approved for around 70 people.
As recently as the end of December, 37 people were killed and 19 others injured in a bus accident in Cameroon.
