Since April, mobile home owners no longer only have to go to the general inspection.

Another check is now necessary.

Owners of a mobile home or caravan have to go to the main inspection (HU) every two years.

Until recently, the gas test was also carried out as part of the HU.

Since April 1, however, that is no longer the case – at least not to the full extent.

Instead, mobile homes and caravans have to undergo a separate gas test, which is carried out independently of the HU.

The time intervals at which these must take place regularly have not yet been finally clarified.

However, it is recommended that the gas check be carried out every two years.

For camper owners, this means that they cannot have everything checked in one go, but the separate gas test also has an advantage: the test will probably be cheaper because more specialist workshops can carry it out.

According to the TÜV association, proof of a gas test is no longer mandatory for mobile homes in order to pass the main inspection (HU), but it is for your own safety.

In the case of liquid gas systems in mobile homes or boats, the hoses connected are

one of the greatest risk factors

according to TÜV assessments .

With age, their material can become brittle and cracked.

Kinks in the hose and exposure to the sun contribute to this.

Leaks are dangerous.

Escaping gas can cause unconsciousness or ignite and cause an explosion.

In addition, the sticker for the gas test has to be shown on many campsites in Germany and other

countries

.

Otherwise the access barrier remains closed.

In addition, a defective gas system could

cost the car insurance cover

.

According to the expert organization KÜS, if proof of a passed gas test is missing after an accident, this can be assessed by the insurers as gross negligence.

Comprehensive insurance could then be refused, and insurance companies could take recourse against customers in the case of liability.
