Stockholm-Sana

The Nobel Institute announced today the cancellation of the traditional award ceremony scheduled for December 10 in Stockholm for the first time since 1944 due to the outbreak of the Corona Covid 19 epidemic.

The French Press Agency stated that in the absence of the winners who will receive their prizes from a televised ceremony, the names of the winners of the various prizes (medicine, physics, chemistry, literature, peace and economics) will be announced on the specified dates from Stockholm and Oslo.

The director of the Norwegian Nobel Institute explained that “a small ceremony will be held for the handover of the Nobel Peace in Oslo, but briefly,” noting that the idea this year is to deliver medals and certificates to the winners in a safe way in their countries of residence with the help of the winners ’embassies and universities.

The Nobel Foundation historian Gustav Kallstrand noted that “the only year in which the party was not held in Stockholm” was in 1944 during World War II, when the aforementioned year’s prizes were awarded during the following year.
