The car needs an oil change at regular intervals.
But how often does the important service have to be carried out?
Driving is expensive fun.
Not only because of the high fuel prices in Germany, but also because of numerous additional costs.
For example, drivers regularly have to spend money on the main inspection at the TÜV or the inspection of their car.
With the latter, an oil change
is also carried out at regular intervals
.
But how often should that happen?
The frequency of the oil change depends on various factors: In addition to the engine, the
mileage
and the
engine oil
used are also decisive.
In most cases, the interval is
between 15,000 and 40,000 kilometers
.
You can find the exact distance in your car's manual, which also states which oil is right for your vehicle.
Car service: How often should you change the oil?
With an average mileage of 10,000 to 15,000 kilometers per year, the
oil should be changed every 1.5 to two years
.
“In some on-board computers there is a function called 'Engine oil life'.
There it is shown as a percentage of how much the oil has already worn out," explains the "Allianz Autowelt".
Depending on the model, the oil should be changed every 15,000 to 40,000 kilometers.

In addition to normal engine oils, however, there are special oils that allow for less frequent oil changes.
These are so-called
long-life oils
, which only have to be changed every 30,000 to 60,000 kilometers.
When using
Lifetime oils
, no oil change should even be necessary.
Service for the car: Oil has to be changed more frequently for short journeys
As an additional guide, some workshops stick a note in the car stating the
mileage
at which the next oil change is due.
This can be located on the inside of the driver's door, for example.
Drivers who drive often or only in the city should also change the
oil
more frequently , as this puts more strain on the engine.
The
oil change after 1,000 kilometers
, which used to be the norm for new cars, is now no longer necessary because the engines are built much more precisely these days.
If you want to be sure, you will also find the relevant information in the manual.
If you want to save money, you can also change the oil yourself or
bring the oil to the
workshop .
