(CNN) --

Manchester United are finalizing the signing of Real Madrid and Brazilian midfielder Casemiro, Spanish club manager Carlo Ancelotti confirmed on Friday.

United would pay the Spanish giant US$60 million in advance and an additional US$10 million for the midfielder's services.

Neither Manchester United, nor Real Madrid, nor Casemiro's representatives were available for comment when contacted by CNN.

In a press conference this Friday, Ancelotti confirmed that he had spoken with Casemiro, who had expressed his intention to leave the club.

"He wants to take on a new challenge, the club understands that," Ancelotti told reporters ahead of Real Madrid's La Liga match against Celta de Vigo.

"For everything he has done and for the person Casemiro is, we have to respect his wish. Negotiations are underway, there is nothing official, he is still our player, but his wish is to leave."

The Brazilian international has won three La Liga titles and five Champions League titles since he arrived at Real Madrid in 2013.

The 30-year-old, whose current contract runs until June 2025, played 222 games for the Whites and scored 24 goals.

Defensive midfielder Casemiro would become the fourth signing of the summer for Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag, who has already signed left-back Tyrell Malacia, midfielder Christian Eriksen and defender Lisandro Martinez.

United are currently bottom of the Premier League, having suffered a torrid start to the season with consecutive defeats in their opening two games.

Last Saturday, United were humiliated 4-0 at Brentford, after which Ten Hag said his team's plan had been "put in the bin".

"They (players) make bad decisions, and this is football. It's a game of mistakes and we get punished," Ten Hag said afterwards.

"It's naive how we played today. We have to play more direct. We attracted them; the space was high on the pitch... We will learn, we have to learn. But it's not good, it's quite clear at this level," added the coach after the defeat.
