Won the premier class in the previous season, now the perfect start to the new season of the Champions League celebrated: Defending champion Chelsea FC could rely on his returnee in the 1-0 (0-0) against Zenit St. Petersburg.
Romelu Lukaku scored the winning goal for coach Thomas Tuchel's team - his fourth goal in the fourth game since his summer move.
The goal showed why Chelsea invested the record sum of 115 million euros to sign the Inter Milan player, who the club had given up as a marginal figure in 2014.
Lukaku ventured into the penalty area, dodged the defense and headed a Cesar Azpilicueta cross into the net in the 69th minute.
DFB striker Timo Werner was not used.
In the second game of Group H Juventus won 3-0 (3-0) at Underdog Malmö FF with goals from Alex Sandro (23rd), Paulo Dybala (penalty / 45th) and Alvaro Morata (45th + 1).
Atalanta Bergamo escaped defeat at Villarreal FC thanks to international Robin Gosens.
The left winger scored the final 2-2 in the final phase (83rd) after the Spaniards had temporarily turned the game through Manu Trigueros (39th) and Arnaut Danjuma (73rd).
Substitute Francis Coquelin played for Villarreal only 24 minutes before he was thrown off the field again with a yellow-red (84th).
