Champions League: The final could be relocated to England.

According to the British daily The Telegraph, the final of the Champions League could finally take place in the United Kingdom.

Like the Rugby Champions Cup final between two French clubs, Toulouse and La Rochelle, the football Champions League final opposes two clubs from the same country, the English of Manchester City and Chelsea.

As in Rugby, the place of the final is debated.

According to information from our British colleagues, UEFA plans to relocate the Champions League final to England. The reason: The UK has placed Turkey on its Covid-19 Red List. This presence in this list would force the players to carry out a ten-day quarantine on their return to the United Kingdom, which does not satisfy the England manager, Gareth Southgate. Indeed, the England team is playing its first friendly match in preparation for Euro 2020, on June 2. Quarantine would therefore disrupt the preparation of the Three Lions. Among the English players who could be concerned are the Citizens, Kyle Walker, John Stones and Phil Foden and the Blues, Ben Chilwell, Mason Mont and Reece James.

In addition, the 12,000 Chelsea and Manchester City fans are said to be unable to make the trip to Turkey.

Supporters would be required to stay 10 days in isolation in a hotel in Turkey and at their own expense.

While the British government would insist that the final take place in England, there are also plans to exempt the players from quarantine upon their return to the island, if UEFA maintains the final in Turkey.

However that would not solve the problem of the supporters.

Wembley Stadium and Tottenham Stadium could therefore host this final if the governing body of European football decides to relocate the final, scheduled for May 29.

The Telegraph

adds that UEFA is expected to give a final response within 72 hours.
