Chaos at RTL: problems with the Frankfurt broadcast – "Please give back the TV rights"

RTL will hold the rights to the Europa League until 2024.

During the Europa League final, many viewers complained about the broadcast on RTL.

The broadcaster responded immediately.

Cologne - Numerous football fans in Germany had already marked Wednesday, May 18th, in their calendars.

The Europa League final between Eintracht Frankfurt and Glasgow Rangers is taking place in Seville, with two traditional clubs fighting for the European Cup.

However, some spectators stayed behind.

This was due to disruptions during the transmission of the final.

But not in linear television, but in the live stream it was huge.

"Dear football fans, we know about the technical problem with the stream on some devices," wrote RTL+ on Twitter on Wednesday evening shortly before the game started.

At times there were problems, users reported sound and image disturbances as well as asynchronicity.

“We are working flat out on a solution.

Alternatively, feel free to use the RTL TV stream in the app or the free TV broadcast on RTL,” wrote the broadcaster and added a few minutes later that the problem had been fixed and the streams should be running again.

Even RTL commentator Marco Hagemann felt compelled to apologize to the viewers while the final was being broadcast.

Nevertheless, the resentment among the fans was great, also because RTL + requires a subscription and therefore cannot be viewed for free.

"You subscribe to RTL+ to watch Frankfurt in a relaxed manner with friends and it crashes every 5 minutes, only bad quality and you didn't notice both goals.

Everyone really annoyed!” complained a user on Twitter.

Many agree with him.

"Thank you RTL+ for your delay.

This is how football is fun,” writes another user sarcastically.

“This is how you attract new subscribers!

Bravo!

Please let football be easy in the future, it's not the first time.

Just annoying," observes another user. "The worst quality of the transmission.

Please give back the TV rights, grade 6. I want my money back,” is the harsh judgment of another fan.

RTL has held the rights to the Europa League and the Conference League since 2020, and the contract does not expire until 2024.
