Checo Pérez has shone in the night of Singapore.

The Mexican has added his fourth victory in the tough Formula 1 after overcoming a survival race on the Asian circuit.

The Red Bull man managed to keep Charles Leclerc at bay to win the victory in an eventful race with six drivers out of action.

The performance of the Mexican was stronger with more than seven and a half seconds away from his rival.

The podium was completed by Carlos Sainz.

"The last three laps were very intense, I pushed everything to win," said the Mexican.

“This is the Mexican way [to win]!” he added.

The Mexican driver had a great classification by placing second, 22 thousandths of a second behind Leclerc.

The street circuits, such as Monaco, Azerbaijan and this one in Singapore, have been good for him, although this Sunday everything increased the difficulty with a winding circuit.

The race was delayed by an hour due to rain that left the track wet.

Pérez started more awake than ever to win the position from the Ferrari and take the lead;

Verstappen, who started eighth, fell to eleventh position.

Near the eighth lap, a collision between the cars of Zhou and Latifi caused a

safety car

.

And yes: the moment of tension returned.

Already this season the Mexican had lost the podium due to a distraction when restarting the race, but not this Sunday.

Checo Pérez fully pressed the accelerator to keep up with Leclerc.

The race for Pérez began to enter into a dynamic in which he had to keep up the pace, take care of the tires and be on the defensive of the Ferrari strategy.

Red Bull began to take up to two seconds from Leclerc and more than 10 from Sainz.

On

lap

21, the Alpine's engine frustrated Fernando Alonso's race and kept all the teams on tenterhooks as they didn't know whether to change the wet tires.

George Russell did it and when he returned to the asphalt the Mercedes slipped.

Another scare was coming when Albon hit the wall without much violence, although the question remained if there was going to be an opportunity to change the tires.

The series of shocks continued when Esteban Ocon left the race before the first 30 laps.

And not even the teams risked to call their drivers to the garage.

On turn 35 the movement began.

Leclerc changed tires one lap before Checo Pérez.

It was the key moment of the race with a stoppage of 2.8 seconds.

On his return to the track, the Mexican was still in the lead.

Japanese Tsunoda crashed into the barriers and caused the

safety car,

which benefited very few.

At the restart, the Red Bull had to defend himself and start from scratch to build an advantage against Leclerc.

The stewards put the race on hold when they investigated the Mexican for breaking the safety car rules, which would mean, if they made the punishment official, five seconds of punishment.

The last 25 minutes were a direct battle between Pérez and Leclerc.

The pride of Guadalajara had problems to placate the Monegasque and also with the traction of the car.

The confrontation was prolonged thanks to the Mexican's defense and it was until one of Leclerc's mistakes that they opened the door for him to become more than a leader.

Pérez managed to get seven seconds off the Ferrari.

Complete victory that adds to his achievements in Sakhir 2020, Azerbaijan 2021 and Monaco this year, which consolidate him as the best driver in the history of Mexico.

After the victory, Pérez is in third place with 235 points, two behind Leclerc.

Verstappen, despite finishing seventh this Sunday, continues to lead with 341 units.
