From one day to the next, Ulli Matza feared losing two Afghan workers.

His only ones.

A disaster for the horticulturist and landscaper.

Then District Administrator Stefan Frey helped to at least a provisional happy ending.

Oberpfaffenhofen / Herrsching - A week ago, Ulli Matza received the call from his employees. The district office had informed the two Afghan citizens that at least one of them was no longer allowed to work after a rejected asylum procedure. The same threatens the other. Najib Nouri (30) and Hamidullah Jafari (27) have been working for the Germering horticultural master, who has his storage space in Oberpfaffenhofen, for three years. Matza was just happy to hear this, because Jafari was guaranteed an apartment in Andechs from October. He and his colleague are currently living in the refugee accommodation in Herrsching, which is only limited to 2023. “Then that,” says the 49-year-old, “that’s really tough”. For him as an employer with full order books and for his employees, which he had grown dear to his heart in the three years. “The news was like a punch in the face for us.” As a master landscape gardener and master examiner, he was always asked to employ refugees. His employees are an example of good integration. Matza never expected the withdrawal of the work permit, but rather the recognition as a refugee.

Nouri and Jafari had received Matza through the Herrsching Helferkreis. Both learned German from him, albeit not enough to master the “technical language” that is required in the training. “But we talk and we get along.” Matza doesn't want to be without either of them anymore. "We are super attuned to each other."

But when the asylum procedure was rejected by Nouri, the district office withdrew his work permit. For further processing, the process was forwarded to the Central Immigration Office, which alone decides on a deportation. “That is the usual way,” explains district spokesman Stefan Diebl. However, the district office can check whether a work permit for the transition period is possible. This is exactly what happened. “I had the case re-examined. The new permit with work permit goes out today, ”said District Administrator Stefan Frey yesterday. “It does not make sense not to let work or expel well-integrated workers who are urgently needed here. Ultimately, however, the Central Immigration Office has to decide on further treatment.“Matza was really happy about this news, but the matter of deportation is still in the air. Afghan citizens have been deported since December 2016, security there is not at risk. It is currently being discussed whether this will also be the case after the security forces have withdrawn

The processing time at the immigration office takes about three months on average, says Diebl. Jafari has not yet been deported. His work permit will not expire until September 2022, and the asylum procedure has not yet been completed. For the moment, Nouri can also breathe a sigh of relief. And with him his boss.
