(ANSA) - SANTIAGO DEL CHILE, MAY 16 - The seats for the second day of voting reopened at 8 (14 Italian) in Chile to choose the members of the future Constituent Assembly in charge of drafting the new Constitution which will replace the one imposed in 1980, in full dictatorship, by General Augusto Pinochet. Starting at 6 pm (24 am in Italy), the results of the vote that the almost 15 million inhabitants were called to express will also be released for the election of 16 governors, 345 mayors and thousands of regional and municipal councilors. Yesterday, on a substantially quiet day, the Electoral Service (Servel) announced that over three million voters exercised their right, equivalent to a turnout of 20.49%. On the eve, experts argued that, since voting is not compulsory in Chile, the participation of Chileans would hardly have reached 50%, far from the 80% recorded last October for the referendum in which the composition mechanism of the Constituent Assembly was chosen.
