Chile approved this Thursday the use of the Sinovac vaccine for children three years and older, according to the director of the Institute of Public Health of Chile, Heriberto García.
The authorization of this vaccine was based on the institution's analysis of the studies carried out by the Chinese laboratory of Sinovac, which covers data of 100 million doses applied to children between 3 and 17 years old, said the statement of the Director of the Institute of Public health.

The statement also noted that the study reported only 3,890 adverse reactions of which 97.61% were categorized as non-serious, that is, 3.67 cases per 100,000 doses.
Chile already approved vaccination with CoronaVac for children between 6 and 11 years old in September.
Venezuela, Cuba and Colombia are some other Latin American countries that have also approved the use of covid-19 vaccines for young children.

In total, Chile has reported a total of 1,751,769 confirmed cases of covid-19 and 38,218 deaths since the start of the pandemic, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.
