(ANSA-AFP) - NINGBO, JUL 25 - Eastern China was hit today by the gusts of wind and heavy rains of the In-Fa typhoon, while other parts of the country are still busy cleaning up the damage caused by the devastating floods of recent days.
Air, rail and sea traffic has been interrupted in parts of the country's east coast. In Shanghai, China's largest city, the wind has already blown very hard this morning, but rainfall has remained moderate.
All flights have been suspended at the city's two international airports, as have dozens of trains and activity in the ports of Shanghai and Ningbo. Some amusement parks, such as Shanghai Disneyland, have been closed. And residents were urged to avoid outdoor activities.
The tropical storm is expected to touch land in the late afternoon today in the vicinity of Ningbo and Shanghai, two of the largest ports in the world.
Further west, in central Henan province, where a historic flood killed at least 58 people this week, authorities continue to clean up car wrecks and debris obstructing traffic on the roads. Bad weather has affected millions of people, some of whom have been without food or water for several days. According to the Henan government, more than 495,000 people have been evacuated and the damage amounts to billions of euros.
The Chinese meteorological agency has predicted that Typhoon In-Fa will lose intensity on the mainland. But it is expected to cause heavy rain for several days in eastern China, including areas affected by floods. (ANSA-AFP).
