Rescue trip by excavator bucket - in the Chinese metropolis of 12 million Zhengzhou, rescue workers use rubber dinghies and improvised rafts as well as bulldozers to rescue people trapped by the water and transport them to dry areas.

Your big advantage: You can get through deep water safely.

Liu Ki, construction company manager: “He was just saying that a few people are stuck in a remote corner of town.

We have to get them out of there.

Many people can no longer communicate with the outside world.

That is why we volunteer to use excavators from our construction sites to move people.

There are many pregnant women, children and the sick here.

We use our bulldozer to get them to safety. "

Migrant workers from the provinces are particularly hard hit.

Some of them are forced to remain without electricity and running water in flooded parts of the city.

Because of the disrupted transport infrastructure, they cannot go back to work or to their families in the countryside.

In China, around 280 million migrant workers earn their living in large cities.

Zhu Lingyan, restaurant owner: “I was hoping the rain wouldn't have gotten so heavy. If the drainage system in Zhendzhou weren't so bad, it wouldn't collect as much water. Even if we have only a few thousand dollars in damage, we can forget about it. We opened a store for the first time and the loss was so great straight away. Only one person in our family works. We have invested all of our money in this restaurant. "

After the storm disaster on Tuesday, the masses of water in the central Chinese metropolis are slowly draining away. An important traffic tunnel was pumped dry. The number of deaths has risen to more than 50, and some people are still missing. Hundreds of thousands had to be brought to safety. In the past few days, as much rain had fallen in the Henan region as in a year. And the Chinese meteorological office is warning of further flooding in the province.
