The Chinese authorities issued warnings in preparation for Typhoon "N Fa", which is expected to hit many areas, coinciding with its fight against floods and torrential rains caused by heavy rains that swept the country this week.
"The alert level has been raised to the third level, the highest for a typhoon, in addition to the evacuation of more than 594,000 people in Henan Province," Xinhua news agency quoted the authorities as saying.
According to the railway administration, more than 100 train journeys have been canceled, and Shanghai authorities have closed public parks and museums, issued stay-at-home warnings and canceled large outdoor gatherings.
It also closed all container berths at Yangshan Port, south of Shanghai, and transported 150 ships, including passenger and cargo ships, from the region.
Typhoon N Fa is expected to hit the eastern coastal province of Zhejiang, near Shanghai, tomorrow evening.
The warning comes after 58 people were killed by floods in Henan Province, which caused billions of dollars in damages.
