The Greek capital, Athens, today handed over the torch for the Winter Olympics scheduled in the Chinese capital, Beijing next year, to the Chinese Organizing Committee for the Games.
The torch handover ceremony was held at Panathinaiko Stadium, which hosted the first modern Olympic Games in 1896 and was completely built of marble, in the presence of a small number of audience, in light of the measures related to the pandemic of the emerging Corona virus.
Beijing will host the Winter Olympics from February 4-20, becoming the first city to host both the Summer and Winter Olympics after hosting the 2008 Olympics.
