The plants concerned are those in Belvidere in Illinois and Warren in Michigan, in the United States, in Brampton and Windsor in Ontario, in Canada, as well as in Toluca in Mexico.

They manufacture models of Ram 1500 pickup cars, Jeep Compass and Cherokee, as well as various models of Chrysler and Dodge.

Production will be suspended on these sites from next week

"until early or mid-April,"

said a spokesperson for the company in a message sent to AFP.

“Stellantis continues to work closely with (its) suppliers to mitigate the impacts on production caused by the various supply chain issues facing the industry

,” she said.

General Motors, Ford and Toyota impacted

A shortage of electronic components in Asia is currently forcing automakers to slow down at their factories around the world.

The American groups General Motors and Ford had announced in early February the closure of several sites in North America.

The cold snap that gripped the United States in February also caused a shortage of certain plastics, including hard plastics used for dashboards, for example.

Japanese automaker Toyota said last week that it would

"affect production"

at its plants in Kentucky and West Virginia, the United States, and Mexico.
