Christian Eriksen's career continuation with defibrillator in Italy excluded

The Danish national soccer player Christian Eriksen will not be able to continue his career with champions Inter Milan in the Italian Serie A with his implanted defibrillator.

"Only if his defibrillator has been removed and a specialist can show that he is physically well again can he play for Inter again," said Francesco Braconaro, member of the scientific commission at the Italian association FIGC, on Italian radio Kiss Kiss on Thursday .

A game permit for a professional with a defibrillator used is not possible in Italy.

Eriksen collapsed on the pitch during the game against Finland at the start of the European Championship in Copenhagen in June and had to be revived.

The 29-year-old was then implanted with a defibrillator that detects cardiac arrhythmias and triggers shocks in an emergency.

His contract with Inter runs until summer 2024.

In Italy there are much stricter rules in this regard than in other European leagues.

For example, former Dutch international Daley Blind plays with a defibrillator.

Meanwhile, the new Inter coach Simone Inzaghi is hoping for a return of his Danish top star.

“He needs time to recover.

But of course we will greet him again with open arms, ”Inzaghi said.
